Ponnurunni

Ponnurunni is located north of Vyttila, with Kuthappadi to the south, Chetchira to the east, and Chalikavatta to the west. The name comes from a legend about a place where Ponnu used to sit. The M Road was called the cut road by the ancients. The road was made by people with weapons, and there were open spaces for horsemen and horses to rest. The Kolethum pond in Ponnurunni was a swimming pool for the people in Kutila. Once, a group of Brahmins who visited the King of Tripunithara Kovilakat bathed in the pond and accidentally left behind their gold ornaments. They prayed to the Gods and returned to the pond. The Nambuthiris who fled after giving away their gold and valuables, returned after a few days and secured everything in the same way. He blessed the area by giving it the name Ponnurunni.
